Salangai Pooja

Salangai means the dancer’s ankle bells (ghungroo) and Pooja means prayers to God. Salangai pooja is a ritual usually done only when one has learnt Bharatanatyam for a few years and mastered the art of synchronization to Taala. Traditionally, one is not allowed to wear their salangai and perform until after the Salangai pooja is performed and later awarded to them.
